School of Rock 2: America Rocks is a proposed sequel that has been long discussed in development, but to date, has yet to be in production.
In July 2008, it was reported that Jack Black stated that School of Rock 2 was proposed, and would be on board to reprise his starring role of Dewey Finn. It was also reported that director Richard Linklater, producer Scott Rudin, and screenwriter Mike White would return.
In 2012, Black claimed that he believed the sequel was unlikely, he said: "I tried really hard to get all the pieces together. I wouldn't want to do it without the original writer and director, and we never all got together and saw eye-to-eye on what the script would be. It was not meant to be, unfortunately, but never say never."
In 2023, Black revealed during an interview that direct sequels to both School of Rock & Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny were both in the works saying "Yup. Both of them. Breaking news. We're thinking about doing both of those."
Plot[]
In the original proposed plot, Dewey Finn leads a group of summer school students on a cross-country field trip that would educate them into the history of rock 'n' roll along with other genres of music.
